The Logistics Plus project cargo team completed the successful delivery of a DMU 340 G machine from Pfronten, Germany to Waterville, Canada. In order to complete this project, our team had to jump over various hurdles including the location of the job site, the dimension of the machine bed, the lack of cranes available, and the pressing deadline (4 weeks door-to-door). In total, the shipment included 11 crates that weighed a total of 545 freight tons. The largest crate held the machine bed which was 10.2 m long, 4.6 m wide, and 3.9 m high, weighing 75 tons.
Since Waterville is located 95 miles east of Montreal, the project cargo team decided that Bécancour would be the best point of delivery. Once the crates arrived in Bécancour, another challenge presented itself. Due to the Quebec road restrictions, parcels with a width over 4.4 meters were not allowed to be shipped. To accommodate this restriction, our team un-crated the machine bed to reduce the width to the legal limit.
Once the crates arrived in Waterville, our team had to offload the multi-axle truck without a crane due to the hall’s low height. To complete the offloading, Logistics Plus used hydraulic jacks that lifted the machine bed into its assigned place with ease.
Logistics Plus Receives 2020 Supply & Demand Chain Executive
SDCE 100 Top Supply Chain Projects Award
It’s the second consecutive year; and fourth time in the past five years that Logistics Plus has been recognized.
ERIE, PA (June 17, 2020) – Logistics Plus Inc., a leading worldwide provider of transportation, logistics, and supply chain solutions, is proud to announce it has been selected by Supply & Demand Chain Executive, the executive’s user manual for successful supply and demand chain transformation, as a recipient of a 2020 “SDCE 100” Top Supply Chain Projects Award. This is the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the past five years that Logistics Plus has been honored with the award.
The 2020 SDCE 100 spotlights successful and innovative projects that deliver bottom-line value to small, medium, and large enterprises across the range of supply chain functions. These projects can serve as a map for supply chain executives looking for new opportunities to drive improvement in their own operations. These projects also show how supply chain solution and service providers help their customers and clients achieve supply chain excellence and prepare their supply chains for success.
The supply chain project submitted by Logistics Plus that earned this year’s recognition was an innovative solution taking existing processes and information flows and aggregating them together for a client that was looking for a simpler, more efficient, and faster fulfillment solution. The client sells private-label furniture items that include a 7-year warranty. The manufacturers for these warranty replacements are primarily located in Asia, but the client’s customers are primarily located in North America. To optimize the warranty process, Logistics Plus provided warehousing and fulfillment services under a single agreement while also acting as the importer of record (IOR). As a result, Logistics Plus was able to go from initial bidding to live operations to support a critical after-market function for the client.
“Innovation is essential in driving the supply chain industry forward, and thanks to these valuable partnerships, companies of all sizes are able to achieve success in projects that matter,” says Marina Mayer, editor for Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “From business intelligence systems and supply and demand planning to inventory reduction and procurement solutions, the SDCE 100 offers proof-of-concept that with the right planning and execution, anything is possible.”
“A big selling point for us is our ability to create unique, out of the box solutions in a moment’s notice,” said Jim Berlin, founder and CEO of Logistics Plus. “I am very proud of our award-winning solutions team. Thank you to Supply & Demand Chain Executive for recognizing us, once again, with one of their top supply chain awards.”

The Logistics Plus project cargo team recently completed the successful delivery of a 325,000 pound transformer to a wind farm in southern Texas. In total, the project took 25 days to complete from pickup to final placement and orientation. This 28 x 12 x 15 foot transformer was transported via rail, unloaded from the rail car to a hydraulic platform trailer, and then hauled to site for final placement.
Due to the weight of the transformer, the containment pit floor at the wind farm was not suitable to bear the weight of any additional support bracing. The Logistics Plus team came up with a robust solution to use much larger beams to carry the transformer the entire distance of the pit without the need for any additional weight applied on the containment pit floor.
The Logistics Plus China and Belgium project cargo teams assisted with building the first ever floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel in China. The transport involved shipping 3 regasification modules; the largest one measuring 20 x 10.5 x 14.5 meters and weighing 425 metric tons. These modules were transported from the production facility to the shipyard in China where they were being installed. Logistics Plus provided project management services to design the transport plan, provide oversight, and share the necessary information with all parties involved in this operation.
As a side note, Global Project Manager Frederik Geirnaert would normally attend such an operation. As a result of coronavirus (COVID-19), Frederik was forced to oversee the operation virtually using a direct video link provided by the nominated Marine Warranty Surveyor. Logistics Plus would like to thank all of our partners as this operation would not be possible without their support.
