The National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC)® system for LTL freight (less-than-truckload) can be confusing. In addition, major changes are scheduled to take effect July 19, 2025. Nearly 2,000 commodities will be moving to a newly expanded density table containing 13 classes. This will affect the pricing of many LTL shipments.
