Alert Message:
Please be advised that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced an increase in the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF), which will commence on October 1, 2024.
The MPF is a user fee that the CBP charges in addition to U.S. Customs Duty. MPF for formal entries is an ad valorem fee of 0.3464%. The fee is based on the value of the merchandise being imported, not including duty, freight, and insurance charges.
Current minimum MPF: $31.67
New minimum MPF: $32.71
Current maximum MPF: $614.35
New maximum MPF: $634.62
MPF for informal entries is a set fee assessed on goods transported to the U.S. via air, ship, or international mail.
Current informal entry fee: $2.53
New informal entry fee: $2.62
Formal and informal entries are subject to a manufacturing processing fee. The Code of Federal Regulations 19 CFR 21.23(b)(1) requires the importer of record to pay the fee to CBP at the time of presenting the entry summary. Formal entries are required for imports of commercial goods valued at $2,500 or more.
Informal entries generally do not require a CBP bond and are usually for personal use imports or commercial imports valued at less than $2,500 (only if the Port Director requests based on importation).
