As we approach 2025, the global container shipping industry is undergoing significant changes with the restructuring of major shipping alliances. Here are the key updates:
1. Ocean Alliance: This alliance, consisting of CMA-CGM, COSCO Group, OOCL, and Evergreen, will continue with its current members and services. This alliance represents about 29% of the market.
2. GEMINI: The 2M Alliance today between Maersk and MSC will dissolve. Maersk will form a new alliance called Gemini with Hapag-Lloyd, while MSC will operate. This alliance represents about 22% of the market.
3. The Premier Alliance: This rebrands the current THE Alliance after Hapag-Lloyd’s departure. The remaining members will be HMM, ONE, and Yang Ming. This alliance represents about 12% of the market.
4. Independents: MCS, ZIM, and other niche carriers will continue operating independently, representing 37% of the marketplace.
The restructuring of global container shipping alliances in 2025 is expected to have several implications for shipping costs:
- Increased Efficiency: The new alliances aim to optimize capacity and reduce operating costs by pooling resources and sharing fleets. This could lead to more efficient operations and potentially lower shipping costs.
- Service Frequency and Reliability: Enhanced service frequency and reliability on significant trade routes, such as Asia-Europe and Trans-Pacific, may reduce delays and improve supply chain predictability. This could help stabilize shipping costs.
- Competitive Pricing: With the dissolution of the 2M Alliance and the formation of new alliances like Gemini and Premier, there may be increased competition among carriers. This competition could drive down shipping rates as carriers vie for market share.
- Fuel and Environmental Costs: Many new alliances focus on decarbonization and sustainable shipping practices. While this benefits the environment, the initial investment in greener technologies might lead to higher costs in the short term, which could be passed on to customers.
While the restructuring aims to create a more efficient and competitive market, the exact impact on shipping costs will depend on how these changes are implemented and how market dynamics evolve.

Jan Krediet, a Logistics Plus company, continues to deliver humanitarian aid to cities across Ukraine. For their latest delivery to Odesa, the Jan Krediet team was assisted by the ‘Drivers for Hope’ agency, who set up a convoy with five other local carriers.
The load contained power generators, medical equipment, medical clothing, wheelchairs, washing powder, and children’s toys to supply the hospitals around Odesa. Upon arrival, the cargo was offloaded in the village of Liubashivka, where the goods were then distributed based on the needs of the local hospitals.
The mayor of the region, who is praised by the Ukrainian army for his commitment and help, thanked the convoy drivers. Photos of the convoy and delivery can be seen below.

The Logistics Plus (LP) Aero team is pleased to join other Logistics Plus offices in obtaining its IATA Cargo Accounts Settlement Systems (CASS) number for simplified billing and settling of accounts with scheduled airlines. CASS yields a two-fold solution as it replaces airlines’ traditional paper-based invoicing and also agents’ manual control of those invoices.
Andriy Blagovisniy, Global Director of Air Chartering for LP Aero, commented on the significance. “Getting an IATA CASS number gives our team access to faster and more efficient scheduled airline solutions. We now have improved access to many cargo carriers conducting export flights in the UK. By combining this access with our air charter capabilities, we can offer our customers solutions ranging from small packages to the most complex project cargo pieces.” Andriy added, “As a part of Logistics Plus, we continue to offer worldwide door-to-door solutions by air, sea, road, and rail.”
About IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade association for the world’s airlines, representing some 330 airlines over 80% of global air traffic. IATA supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.
