FF&E stands for Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment. OS&E stands for Operating Supplies and Equipment. Also known as hospitality logistics, FF&E logistics and OS&E logistics refer to managing the procurement, transportation, warehousing, installation, and maintenance of these items for hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality venues.
For purposes of this article, we’ll simply use the term FF&E logistics. The goal of FF&E logistics is to ensure that the right items are delivered to the right place at the right time and in the right condition. FF&E logistics is a complex and specialized field that requires a deep understanding of the hospitality, retail, co-working, co-living, healthcare, education, trade show, and real estate development industries, as well as the ability to manage complex supply chains. FF&E logistics providers typically offer a wide range of services, including:
Project management: Planning and coordinating all aspects of the FF&E logistics process, from procurement to installation.
Transportation management: Moving FF&E items from the manufacturer to the hospitality venue.
Warehousing: Storing FF&E items until they are needed for installation.
Installation: Installing FF&E items in the hospitality venue.
Maintenance: Maintaining or replacing FF&E items already installed.
In addition to these core services, FF&E logistics providers may also offer a variety of value-added services, such as:
Inventory management: Tracking FF&E or OS&E items from procurement to installation and beyond.
Space planning: Helping designers of hospitality venues to optimize the use of their space.
Design consulting: Providing advice on the sourcing, selection, and placement of FF&E or OS&E items.
Procurement: Facilitating the sourcing and, if needed, the importation of FF&E or OS&E items from a variety of vendors.
Here are some of the benefits of using an established, reputable FF&E logistics provider:
Reduced costs: FF&E logistics providers can help to reduce costs by optimizing the supply chain and eliminating inefficiencies.
Improved efficiency: FF&E logistics providers can help to improve efficiency by automating and streamlining processes.
Increased quality: FF&E logistics providers can help to increase quality by providing expertise in selection, installation, and maintenance.
Reduced risk: FF&E logistics providers can help to reduce risk by managing the supply chain and ensuring that items are delivered in good condition.
If you are considering using an FF&E logistics provider, be sure to do your research and choose a provider that has solid experience, good technology, and a proven track record of success.
The Logistics Plus (LP) Thailand team successfully transported two catamarans from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to Koror, Palau. At the start of the project, the LP Thailand team struggled to find a carrier that would accept the overlength and over-dimensional catamarans (12.22 L x 3.31 W x 4.21 H meters). The carriers didn’t understand that the bow (front of the boat) was curved, allowing the ISO lifting points to be clear for lifting without touching the catamarans.
After the LP Thailand team presented their idea to the client and shipping lines, the catamarans were approved to move on flat racks. A supervisor was on-site at each location to monitor the loading and discharge of the catamarans.
Logistics Plus proudly donated a plaque to the Erie Sports Center to honor and remember our good friend, Dan Lynch. We want to thank Troy Bingham (Owner of Erie Sports Center) for the opportunity, Jason Mumford (Artist) for the design, and Dan Zack and Doug Berlin (friends of Logistics Plus) for their input.
For those who didn’t know Dan Lynch, Logistics Plus Founder & CEO Jim Berlin shared the message below about what Dan meant to him and the company.
“Dan was the guy who gave LP our start by giving Fred, Bonnie, and myself the opportunity at GE way back in 1996 when he was GE Transportation’s Traffic Manager. Since Dan was a big baseball fan and an Erie guy who always looked to better his community, we thought this plaque was a small yet fitting way to honor him. Dan was a wonderful guy and friend who knew every zip code in America, every carrier and trucking company, and even how many miles a route was without looking it up. Encyclopedic knowledge. A trucking Google before Google 😀. And more importantly, Dan was also the guy who gave us our small start–a one-year purchase order that has led to who/where we are today. I know he’d be proud. Without Dan, there is no Logistics Plus. So, in a very meaningful way, he has impacted ALL of our lives. So, here’s to Dan. Greatly missed. But never forgotten!” – JB
Logistics Plus was once again a proud sponsor of the NDIA Swing for Freedom Golf Invitational held in Leesburg, VA. The annual golf outing is hosted by the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and benefits the USO-Metro. Since 1941, the United Service Organization has served as a vital bridge between Americans and their military service members.
As seen in the image below (from L-R), Blaine Kurtz, Mike Callan, Pat Steele, and Tyler Dangel represented Logistics Plus in the outing. Although they didn’t win, the team shot an impressive ten under par. More importantly, a great time was had to support this vital cause.
