When you have a customer (like we have) that is a global leader in the world of power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure and a company that sets the benchmark for innovative and environmentally friendly technologies – you are working with a company that is very savvy at transportation and logistics. However, nobody knows global logistics quite like the Logistics Plus International staff.
The customer described above recently presented Logistics Plus with a cargo challenge to move an extremely large, and heavy gas feeder unit from Kansas to Argentina. At first, the customer was considering an air charter, but Logistics Plus was able to find an extremely affordable ocean solution which saved the customer significantly on their port-to-port shipping costs.
Additionally, the same customer asked Logistics Plus to compare our ground rates in the U.S. with the rates they had already established on their own. As it turned out, the Logistics Plus ground solution in the U.S. saved the customer another thousand dollars on top of their international transportation expense savings.
We’re happy to report the shipment is departing Concordia, Kansas next week Monday where it will be shipped to the Port of Houston, ocean transported to the Port of Zarate in Argentina, and then trucked again to its final destination. Chinese New Year celebrations, also known as the Spring Festival, in China start on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The festival lasts for about 23 days, ending on the 15th day of the first lunar month in the following year in the Chinese calendar.
According to historical documents, on the day when Shun, who was one of ancient China’s mythological emperors, came to the throne more than 4000 years ago, he led his ministers to worship heaven and earth. From then on, that day was regarded as the first day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar. This is the basic origin of Chinese New Year. China adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1911, so Chinese New Year was renamed the Spring Festival.
The red posters with poetic verses on it were initially a type of amulet, but now it simply means good fortune and joy. Various Chinese New Year symbols express different meanings. For example, an image of a fish symbolizes “having more than one needs every year”. A firecracker symbolizes “good luck in the coming year”. The festival lanterns symbolize “pursuing the bright and the beautiful”.

We are proud to have Heena Merha on the Logistics Plus team. She recently relocated to Erie, PA from southern CA where she studied international business and marketing, and acquired supply chain experience working on the shipper side of logistics. Heena will be working to further develop business in our U.S./India trade lane – a lane that is particularly strong for us. On the U.S. side, we have over a dozen strategically located offices in major cities; and India, we have a growing network of over 14 offices with more than 18 years of experience in the Indian market. We already work with some prominent companies located in India and, as noted above, we’ve handled some very complex logistics projects in India.
